Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.
I have always been sensitive to the way people deal with perceived suffering as inspiration. My life has been filled with challenges. Born with a disability, I have faced a life of adapting. It was my life, it is my life. With nothing in my experience to compare, I adapted. I crawled instead of walking, I sat on my dad’s shoulders to get from one place to the other until it was time for my first wheelchair at the age of four. I entered the world knowing that to get in and out of almost any place would require adapting – stretching to find ways other than ‘normal’ doorways.
There have been plenty of times when certain opportunities have been difficult to reach but I have always been encouraged to find alternatives. This may look like suffering to the outsider but I choose, each day, to seek out the next way to overcome.
It is a way many people choose. The way of overcoming.
