Maundy Thursday

‘Say it’s here where our pieces fall in place
We can fear, ’cause the feeling’s fine to betray
Where our water isn’t hidden
We can burn and be forgiven
Where our hands hurt from healing
We can laugh without a reason

‘Cause the sun isn’t only sinking fast
Every moon and our bodies make shining glass
Where the time of our lives is all we have
And we get a chance to say Before we ease away
For all the love you’ve left behind
You can have mine’

The table welcomes the strong and the injured, the lost and the discovered. By example, we are reminded no one is greater. By example, we are shown the importance of caring for one another.
Be creative, and stretch your imagination – the table could look like a truck bed. The gathering could reach from the forest to the city. Seekers are everywhere.

John 13:1-17, 31b-35 – After he had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord–and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
