A season of decisions
Wednesday – Advent 2
“A decision joins us to the eternal. It brings what is eternal into time. A decision raises us with a shock from the slumber of monotony. A decision breaks the magic spell of custom. A decision breaks the long row of weary thoughts. A decision pronounces its blessing upon even the weakest beginning, as long as it is a real beginning. Decision is the awakening to the eternal.”
—Søren Kierkegaard
Many decisions are made during the weeks approaching Christmas. Mary says ‘yes’ to a visiting angel. Her betrothed, Joseph, says ‘yes’ to another angel. Shepherds are called on to make decisions and wise men are inclined to follow a star.
Each of these decisions draw us closer to the reality that God is among us. As Keerkigard reflects- “A decision raises us with a shock from the slumber of monotony.”
There is no monotony during these days of life-changing decisions. We are awakened to learn the importance of these decisions and our own role in preparing for their outcome.
Let us pay attention to the decisions of the season and our role in their outcome.
