One of my favorite church ‘seasons’ is Advent—the four weeks before Christmas. During these four weeks, we hear stories from holy scripture that speak of hope and light in dark and unsettling times. While reading stories about light, we light candles as visual reminders of this hope. These stories are repeated yearly, but they can speak to us in different ways as we find ourselves in new and unexpected places.
My friend Cathie Caimano and I have been sharing stories about our spiritual practices during Advent. We have been intrigued by our similarities and our differences.
The more we talked, the more an idea grew between us. We wondered… what if we extended this conversation, shared it on Substack, and invited our friends to join us?
So, this is an invitation!
I invite you to join us in Prepare the Way: an Advent conversation.
This will be a time for us to read(Scripture), reflect(either Cathie or I will offer a short reflection, and the other will respond to it), and practice (an invitation to the reader to respond with us or privately - or both!).
The conversation will begin arriving in your email inbox when you subscribe.
Beginning December 1, you will receive an email four times a week (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The last week of Advent will only have two days: Sunday and Monday. Following those two days, there will be reflections on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Advent is an extraordinary time to discover God in our lives. I would love to share this conversation with you.
