Maybe what we can do when we feel overwhelmed is to start small. Start with what we have loved as kids and see where that leads us.
I know it's not official by the date! June 20 will mark the summer solstice…, but my ‘official’ date for summer always comes earlier.
My summer begins on the day when twilight welcomes the first flash of a firefly’s golden light. Sitting in my backyard, enjoying air’s transition from afternoon heat to evening cool - out of the corner of my eye, I see a flicker of light. In an instant, a small light blinks across the yard. An answer, of sorts - a visual conversation, beautiful and rhythmic.
These tiny creatures, hidden from view, light a way as they search for each other. This has always brought out the child in me. Filled with wonder and drawn to the mystical, I would sit in the backyards of our Southern homes stretching my eyes to see. To see how far away I could find the small lights as they blinked - on and off.
Small and simple - to watch fireflies dancing in the night. One thought at a time, clearing the chatter that can bring anxiety, easily leaving one overwhelmed.
One thought at a time, just like the flash of the firefly.

I always go by the meteorological calendar:
Summer = June, July, August
Fall = September, October, November
Winter = December, January, February
Spring = March, April, May.
It's official! and you're right :)
