the Gatekeeper - from Lent to Palm Sunday
Gratitude will be the doorstop that keeps the door to your heart open. Peace and humility will be its gatekeeper. Cherish your heart, for it is from that place that you live.
Quote: Nicky Morris
Another moment to reflect on doors and gateways- I often see myself moving through a door alone. Having a gatekeeper could change my confidence to step over the threshold. With someone standing there would this feel like a transition of choice?
Often the symbol of a door brings with it the idea of adventure… would a gatekeeper greet me with a welcome, a type of reassurance as I made my move over a threshold. Or would a gatekeeper’s presence make me question my safety?
It is late on the last day of Lent - the evening before Palm Sunday.
In the morning many people will read the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem. On a donkey, surrounded by disciples, believers, and people filled with curiosity he will enter as through a portal from outside.Jerusalem into the city. Showered with praises from people blessed by his presence, he must have been aware of the gatekeepers standing nearby. Theirs would not be an eager welcome but one filled with hostility and distrust. Knowing the risk, Jesus chose to move through this doorway (portal) into a time where he would need sacred courage and confidence.
Morris’s quote speaks of peace and humility as the gatekeepers of an open heart. These are good practices for any day- especially important as Holy Week begins.
